Why ‘triplegangers’?

The word ‘tripleganger’ denotes a digital double or digital lookalike of a human being. Whereas a doppelganger is a human double or lookalike in the real world, a tripleganger is a double in the virtual world.

As a verb (‘tripleganging’) it refers to the process of cloning a person in a digital medium, for example in order to create a virtual avatar. To ‘see your tripleganger’ is to catch a glimpse of yourself in an alternate reality.

Our goal is to try and share cutting edge virtual character related materials, tutorials and other mediums not found any where else on the internet. An exclusive digital store with fair and honest pricing with the intention to provide good quality content.

Scaling the ‘uncanny valley’

As robots or doubles behave more realistically, their uncanny or ‘almost human’ characteristics actually cause unease or revulsion. Plotting a graph of ‘realism’ against ‘acceptance’ shows a dip in acceptance as the accuracy of the model approaches reality. Even tiny divergences between image and reality create a jarring effect that shatters the illusion.

The challenge for creators of human models is to traverse this ‘uncanny valley’ and capture the essence of reality – a human model that people instinctively accept as real. This is our constant goal to try and achieve this essence of reality and provide you with the tools to do so.
